I am over-educated post-Marxist socialist cultural materialist intellectually dishonest Christian pre-apocalyptic middle class trade unionist militant indie snob artistic false modernist polite confused homosexual. I am occasional insomniac republican defensive unsociable misanthropic solipsistic neo-Kantian noisecore fan. Whimsical when the world is drowning. I am unliked and un-likeable, questioning enquiring arrogant never satisfied emotional illiterate. I am irrelevant outmoded useless untalented book reading bore. Accurate self-definition = self-awareness = self-loathing if you've any fucking decency. I don't even hate myself properly.

Well, it's just meant as a list of adjectives, language stripped of embellishment. Perhaps that makes it anti-poetry. Also I've been listening to an album by Malcolm Middleton (who used to be in Arab Strap) which is full of savage self-loathing.

By the way, and in case anybody has got the wrong idea, in a British context republican means to be in favour of abolishing the monarchy, not to be a supporter of the neo-conservative fuckwits currently in control of the White House.
