The field is bare From the harvest And the fire Ashes and dirt Like memories Mold to my foot Leaving my mark Where I have been Where I have walked You all stand there In a circle Not saying anything Just looking As I come towards you Head down Hands in my pockets Focusing on the soil Like roots Holding me Where I belong Between the sky And the ever-widening sea That I have sailed across A thousand times Gazing out across this farmland Wandering what lies beyond My waves of grain
