crows, smart birds. protecting their own. scavengers and theives. loyal. vocal. yes. i like this very much. --'corp' is always plural--'corps' is pronounced 'core' and i'm pretty sure that's how you want it?

are you one of these ghosts? or were you, until touched by that gentle hand?

To "Cry uncle" is an American colloquilism. It's a game played as a child. You chase someone down and hold them there, all the while spitting in their face or applying nuggies, (do have nuggies in England?) til they say the word 'uncle'. Then you let them go. It's a game used to establish pecking ordered. I never thought about it being an Americanism.

OK I'm learning here - I've never heard of this game or a nuggie! I thought it was something much more psychosexual than it actually is! (What's a nuggie?)

this feels very prosaic; i'm not sure it's all worked out and put together in the most effective sequence. i don't get the misogeny aspect at all. i think it's more about the guy being miserable in his own skin, but not able/willing to do anything about it. that happier hour (nice pun, by the way) isn't going to come to him, as he sits staring down the waitress's blouse...but he knows that.

Nice, The :'s and the ;'s are distracting especially in the 1st & 2nd lines. Maybe they have some cryptic meaning I'm to obtuse to understand. In the last stanza the prep. phrase is so long I forgot what the subject of the sentence was. Awkward. Nice but awkward.

You immobilize someone, preferably in a head-lock, then rub the top of their head with your knuckles causing friction causing heat causing pain. Used on younger siblings and naughty children. Sometimes a combination of pain & affection. You're being hurt but you're also in close quarters.

vulcan thanks you for readng it.

mrs.g --lovely and passionate. i think i might like it better if he traced his words on you, since his hands are doing the talking. (what alluring words they must have uttered) but i don't like the word 'speak' twice in the first two lines. interesting that his hands speak in prose, yet his palm is a sonnet...

I recognise the nuggie but we have no word for it in England. Nuggie is pretty damn fine, actually. I also see how this particular game crosses over into the sexual play in your poem - there's another level there of instinctive child-like behaviour underlying adult behaviour. I think this is becoming my favourite poem of yours. And did you mean to finish on a comma?
god'swife on some deleted poem 3 Sep 2002, 8:01 AM
No it's suppose to be a period, but I'm to selfish to lose my votes. You're favorite? Maybe it's your mood today. Going out later?
