A good definition. I don't think you are stating a position, just defining the term.

I like this, coming from you, but watch out, for within this confine are those who will call it soppy, mushy, inspired by Lydia Evelyn.

In a huff? I smile everytime I see one of your names.
Thank you for this fine tribute, my third on this site, if memory serves.
(you should stoop to my level and delete this, you really should - that will show me the arrogance of my ways)

This reads as a critique, but maybe it's a manifesto. My impression is that you were more traditionally religious than to be a secular humanist, but that's just my impression.
Either way this is a false impression of secular humanism. At the very least is presented wholly in the negative.
It's like claiming that Christianity is all about doing whatever it takes to appease some fickle higher power so that you can get into heaven.
How about this:
secular humanism
in a world divided
by race
by religion
by politics
the only universal
is that we are human
in a world divided
by superstition
by tonics
by voodoo
the only universal
is what we observe
and what more noble aspiration is there
than to observe
and by observing
to be a friend
to our fellow humans?

This should really be under prose, which I dislike when associated with poetry, but nevertheless... *6*

There's a category for Prose Poetry, but I disagree with putting this there. It's too long and too unpoetic even for prose poetry. Try a short story, posted elsewhere.

Childhood was the most painful time of my life.
It was only later that I learned that pain was caused the huge growth of my vast penis causing a massive strain on my pelvic floor. It was not until I was diagnosed as having the largest cock in the whole world that I was able to apply for a grant from local government to have a brace made for my legs and back to support the colossal weight of my huge throbbing member. So I will thank you not to write about childhood without reference to children who are afflicted with such terrible afflictions.
And what about the islamists, eh?

Mr Cheese your reinvention is most transparent. Whilst I am glad you have deleted your back catalogue of immesurable guff I am concerned that you may choose to use your new alias as a means to artifically inseminate this glorious website with flecks of mouldy pre-ejaculent.

Though quite touching in its meter and cozy reflection, some childhood recollections don't match up. For example, no "other's truths to embrace or reject," suggests I always agreed with my parents. And I had some "negative thoughts with which to cope." Sometimes I was not "unburdened by sorrow." Well, you get the point, and I'm getting yours - that adult life brings on an unwelcome complexity of worries. But maybe they're just more current.

Trite as written, but possibly good if you construct it better and give more thought to what you are actually saying.

I like the message in this piece and agree. One minor nitpick. I would delete the "off" so it would read, "who venture to new worlds for peace."

Forget the rhyme and try free verse. Also, an economy
of words would improve this. Try to say more with less words.

If you get really good people will slag this type of thing off as trite. Ignoring that criticism, I like the sounds. Especially picture and measure.
