You are released to Doom3. Please, sometime, look at Math Poem 2. I think it’s an improvement. Merry Christmas.

Also if you could let me get back to doom 3 that would be ace.

Ace. I am sure shuushin will love you for saying how little logic their appears to his poem. Anyway where were we. Oh yes. All good poems must follow logic or else what are they-- a conveniently stored set of aphorisms. The whole point of a poem is you build up from a number of premises which include the 'poetic bits' to your insight. My criticism of this poem has always been, rather than building a poem from the simple maths premises you at first set out, you set out the maths premises and fail to make the bridge between premise and conclusion. To me you go from 1+1 to love, hate. That is not how you construct a poem. The reason you wrote the poem like this is because you do not fully understand exactly what you are saying.

The use of logic does not forbid the use of emotion or romantics. I never said it does. Romanticism and logic fit nicely together in many poems. But many other poems lack logic in their romanticism, and they too can be good poems. My I cite a favorite of mine by our departed Shuushin: Holding On by Shuushin She would act too eager to please, prone to furtive backward glances as we were never quite at ease. Secretive on past romances; something unsettled in her past, prone to furtive backward glances. I asked her once what spell was cast, lost deep in thought she closed wet eyes; something unsettled in her past. “I hope” said she “you realize how difficult this is for me” - lost deep in thought she closed wet eyes. She clasped her hands as if in plea then simply looked away again - how difficult this is for me. And so, up to the very end she would act too eager to please; her heart had never time to mend as we were never quite at ease.

What is not what you said. You said the use of logic forbids the use of emotion or romantics. I said philosophers debate romantics and emotion using logical thought. The problem comes when you believe you don't have to scrutinise what you write about emotion and romance. If a logician can take your poem and prove it to be flawed the poem is valueless.

I'm glad I asked instead of going off on some tangent of plagiarism as you saw happen on your other poem. None of us can know death, except those who claim to have returned. If your father anticipates it, may he do so without fear. Merry Christmas.

Dovina the saying is about my father. The word AL-NAAFIYSH means the soul.
Re: AL-NAAFIYSH by blacksoul Dovina 69.175.6.101 25-Dec-04/10:56 AM
In putting a familiar saying with the name AL-NAAFIYSH, are you commenting on his life or his art? I don't know enough about him to say. I could comment on the saying, but you're getting at something here that I don't understand.

Half-gram, yeah, that's about tear-sized. Too little to choke a person. Still, how is a tear under her breathswell?
Re: a comment on "oh" by fevriere fevriere 62.254.128.4 25-Dec-04/10:17 AM
Actually, I really like that. "A syllable aches". I'm not sure about how the sea got in there. Bit subconscious. Maybe aligning the sea with femininity, girls' emotions?.. Not the foggiest. (Was that a sea allusion, slightly?)
Re: a comment on "oh" by fevriere fevriere 62.254.128.4 25-Dec-04/10:12 AM
I guess you didn't read the half-gram as a tear. Bother.
Re: a comment on Math Poem by Dovina Dovina 69.175.6.101 25-Dec-04/10:04 AM
That is not what I said. Not even close! And except for a few lines, which you could point out, and except for a few lines in your poems, which I could point out, neither of us write that way.

Indeed they are not overwhelmingly so. And what if he did? And what if he didn't? You simply listen to yourself and ignore arguments that deter from your slanderous purposes. I'm simply bored with it all and with you. There is no discussing a matter with you. Merry Christmas.
Re: a comment on Disable by blacksoul -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. 81.153.196.50 25-Dec-04/4:19 AM
"Chances are that he did" Indeed they are. Overwhelmingly. It would be an extraordinary coincidence if he had independently come up with a virtually identical quote. That is why it is YOU who is leaning heavily on an inclination, because all the evidence points the other way. You even go so far as to accuse ME of being ridiculous(c.f. "ridiculous accusation of plagiarism and your more ridiculous trying to support it"). You probably see yourself as the compassionate old vicar, -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. as the marauding hobo-bully, and blacksoul as the victim. But what about the original author of the quote? If the evidence suggests this quote was regurgitated from another source (perhaps blacksoul just heard it somewhere), then as a compassionate person shouldn't you be defending them? Aren't they the more likely victim in all this?
Re: a comment on Math Poem by Dovina richa 81.178.233.69 25-Dec-04/2:36 AM
All forms of expression must follow logic or they are merely a collection of incoherent words. It is incorrect to say using logic eliminates romantic and emotional expression. Both romantics and emotions are debated by philosophers using logic. The reason I believe you ascribe magic to poetry is because you believe stringing sentences together with no logical order works. Somehow that writing it in verse makes those words less vague and more communicative than otherwise would be the case if you just strung sentences together that did not logically follow from each other. You believe that criticism of logic is invalid therefore a poem is beyond reproach with respect to logical inadequacies.
Re: a comment on Disable by blacksoul Dovina 69.175.6.101 24-Dec-04/8:18 PM
You assume too much about people. And having assumed, you react with strong put-down language to minor things. This you do if the person appears wrong or incompetent in some area where you consider yourself more competent. You say that because jroday and blacksoul have flattered me that everything I say in their defense against your accusation is payment for their flattery. Your assumption leads to words like "buffoon" and "seriously damaged" applied to a person whose motives you may not know. In this case I know that you do not understand the motives, because the person is me. I don't know if blacksoul ever heard the expression that he put into his poem. Chances are that he did, but maybe it was in different phrasing when he heard it. I don't know, and neither do you. We each have an inclination, but inclinations are different from knowing. The difference between our reactions is that you lean heavily on your inclination and react harshly. I lean lightly on mine and react compassionately in blacksoul's favor. Your comments, only the first line, are indented about 20 spaces in IE 6.0, sp2, on my computer, as are almost everyone's comments.

I like Society Disguised. Good suggestion.
