Lol. I have to admit, I've never heard the question answered like that. Bravo, young native!
Re: bluebells and none by richa 3-Feb-04/11:43 AM
I don't see the tense one. Telling is a subordinate clause that could be represented something like: "and, telling ourselves that it was not stealing, we had know way of knowing." Also, the time of year that still occurs "when the badger hole etc..." is when you used to pinch bluebells. That also works for me. 'Crows' should be 'crow's'. I don't know what is meant by the fetch of the stare hitting on bark - or, at least, it doesn't call a season to my mind. Crows are around all year here, so is bark. Other than that I think this is fine and a great publishable poetic voice. I see this hitting pulpwood a lot sooner than some other stuff here.

It's cold there. Very cold. And gray. And sometimes (though rarely) you can tell how it is that their grandfathers canonized Hitler and made Jew lampshades. I'm not trying to be German-ist, but the country weirds me out a little. Speaking of abroad, I just rented Lost in Translation. It's release-day here.

Very good. Do you want comments?

Why did you get a zero? You might at first suspect that I hold a disability-ist prejudice and have chosen your handicapped verse as the latest target of my unreasoning hatred. But this wouldn't be true, for -=Dark_Angel=- is wheelchair-bound and I regularly commend both his writing and his unwarranted attacks on other wheelchair-bounds (ie, Stephen Hawking). Likewise, Goad, who had most of his throat torn out by a bad German date and is now only able to approximate 'speech' by rattling a piece of wax paper wrapped around a comb with his weak sursurrations, usually gets my approval. So it can't be that I've somehow sensed that you are one of those spinal-columnless 'miracle' babies from whom any approximation of communication at all should be greeted with wonderment, yet whose handicap only inspires fear and hatred in twisted soul. Maybe it's just the line "Sadness? Ney 'tis just the beginning of a new denile." Yeah, that's probably it.

"Words and phrases that rhyme with difficult: (0 results)" - heiroglyphic jolt, pacific salt, prolific moult, specific volt, beatific colt, soporific dolt - the 3rd, 5th, and 6th of these, I think, being especially well-suited for a poem about young poemrancor posters.
Re: a comment on aggression by ThePariahDog 3-Feb-04/7:23 AM
Brother doesn't rhyme with rather here. I suppose the Brits will argue for father or something, too. The original list (of pure rhymes) was meant as a reflection of PariahDog and his poetry, minus 'Willa Cather' and possibly with 'woolgather' substituted for 'gather.' Rhymezone missed woolgather.
Re: a comment on aggression by ThePariahDog 2-Feb-04/8:54 PM
"divan IS a rather difficult word to rhyme" - no, 'rather' is a rather difficult word to rhyme, going only with blather, gather, lather, Willa Cather, and slather. Difficult, ironically, is even more difficult. You could possibly rhyme it with 'terrific cult' or 'horrific dolt' - but you'd likely be called pretentious and stubborn by most of your peers.
Re: a comment on Soft Speak; Hard Emotion by Blindpoetry 2-Feb-04/8:43 PM
<<<WARNING: long-winded miniscule grammar critique. All except blindpoetry should probably stop reading here.>>>
Okay... here we go:
(1) There should be punctuation between lines 1 and 2 (and so on). Line-ends are not periods.
(2) 'your' in line 2 should be you're, as in you are.
(3) Your maid (note possessive pronoun your) is a guy??? For poetry's sake, please make don't call him a maid. Or don't call a maid a he. I don't care if it is sexist.
(4) *What do these asterices mean?*
(5) Breathe is a verb. It rhymes with seethe. Breath is a noun.
(6) 'thats' should be 'that's', as in 'that is'.
(7) "It got numb from your coldness" is a ridiculous way of talking. It's like 'I got scared by your scariness.'
(8) Who's (note contraction) saying "Why are you like this?" Is that really how people ask if you're (contraction again) ok?
(9) *yells - why an asterix?
(10) "I get up, to my feet" - no comma.
(11) Who are you calling "Dear"? What is this even about?
(12) We capitalize I.
(13) Of all the things in this poem that don't make sense, "I'll just *yells: go outside and save myself*" makes the least sense. But I reiterate that there are a bunch of other things in this poem that don't make sense.
If you plan on saying that poetry is about feelings and not grammar, please take the exact opposite of what -=Dark_Angel=- said above as the opinion of myself and almost anyone else on the site and then go read the comments at the bottom of http://www.poemranker.com/poem-details.jsp?id=79015. Thank you for asking so nicely. I hope I've been some help.

For being the second person ever (after me) to rhyme divan, but still not editing this poem in any meaningful way except to erase votes: -1-

I'll thank you, CLS/lydia, to not multiple vote me. I feel dirty now and overdue for as compulsive scouring.
Re: a comment on Sci-fi ode to poemranker nicknames by zodiac 2-Feb-04/12:19 PM
You do use different identities, though. The sci-fi story that didn't work out is that since everyone could change faces every few days, there was no accountability for anything. In the story this anonymous man-on-the-town meets a great woman and seduces her, only to discover that she's his wife. It comes, I think, from the rather mundane possibility of someone having an internet affair with his spouse unknowingly. But I think it works just as well for poemranker. What do you think?

In English lit, oddly enough.
Re: a comment on Tales From The Outhouse by -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. 2-Feb-04/8:51 AM
I read everything -=Dark_Angel=- writes on this site as a tribute to you, rockmage; just as everything you post is a tribute to him. You are yen and yang, linked by more than just the length of your beards. I prophecy that each of you will fulfill the other's destiny in some startling and grotesque fashion.
Re: Nina Simone (part one) by zodiac 2-Feb-04/7:49 AM
I deleted all your votes. Sorry.

Re: 3AM At Whitey's by DurtKL 2-Feb-04/7:45 AM
I guess they're your stereotypes too. You didn't do anything to make them more. By which I mean, it's good writing, and great images, but ultimately nothing.
Re: a comment on Tales From The Outhouse by -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. 2-Feb-04/6:44 AM
I meant the response to the poem smacks of legitimacy. Even Rockmage gave it a ten immediately after being trounced by a -=Dark_Angel=- in a great poem that was unfortunately quickly deleted (but seen by him, no doubt.) And he's been intentionally giving lower scores lately. I don't agree that there are fewer angry teenagers online, but it seems they're afraid to touch you (either of you). You should have at least been able to count on PariahDog and NanceXToo for some good credibility-establishing 4s. -

- I missed 'AIDS Bonanza!' when I was reading your old posts, but I liked the other two. I dare say, no one writes AIDS like that. As far as the disputed 'Tales' goes, I'm willing to concede your points. The poem does indeed exude an aroma of the overarching and folkloric that hints of many tales untold or to come.
Re: Tales From The Outhouse by -=Dark_Angel=-, P.I. 2-Feb-04/6:11 AM
Congratulations - judging from the response here, I'd say you're turning legitimate. Legitimacy's a terrible burden, I've heard. It did awful things to Tennyson.

If you don't mind my saying, you might do something to celebrate your new laureate position on the ranker - like ordering that all further posts here be husk-oriented or finishing the AIDS trilogy on a spectacularly offensive note. An aspiring naughty poete can't afford to lose his street-credibility.

Or, if you wish, I'm willing to multiple-zero you or leave hideous garbled comments about feelings on your poems. I don't know - I haven't been here long, but it already seems like the passing of an age when no one will zero you, even out of spite. Where's CLS?

That said, this is hardly your best post. Father Blunderbum is introduced way too late - I have no sense of who he IS. What makes him RUN? And it's really only one TALE from the outhouse, right?
