I love he ending it makes this poem meaningful. 'Blind slope' also wonderful.
As a poem, bad. As America-bashing, also bad. Far too blatant. Try something more subtle, that they don't remember -- like how their Navy got its motto.
Actually, I think I'll go do that.
Mirth-inducing stuff! :) Probably makes more sense to someone who is well versed in Greek mythology (like myself - oh, and just as a point of interest, the original, Greek spelling is Heraklez. I don't mean it as a jibe, it's just a little-known fact that I thought might be of interest to you). Excellent stuff (Creme de Menthe AND ancient mythology - I like your style, pal!!!!).
P.S. Anyone who refers to Heraklez as Hercules when talking in an Ancient Greek (as opposed to Roman) context deserves to be hanged, drawn and quartered. Just thought I'd get that one quite clear.....
I like it, but for some reason the last line seems displaced. Maybe it would work better if it were placed differently or something? Something in the style of 'And gave it to her, and she calmed down/and kissed him' maybe? I don't know, it irks me a little.
To be pedantic, 'peaceful' and 'fool' don't really rhyme. But then maybe you have a strange accent.
This must be one of the greatest attacks on political correctness I've ever read. We need more like this. Cheers!
Just one comment -- I think the line 'That wearing...' etc could have been ever better.
All you have to do is put some salt on the red wine stains and they'll be easy to make dissapear. Really.
Great first stanza and a cunning, undermining last line. This cuts through a lot of cant and nonsense. Ace.
-=Dark_Angel=- is going to have something to say about the third line, methinks...
This was a good read... I'm sorry that your father was taken from you too soon. Please don't listen to these people... but know that your father is still with you... in your thoughts and in your heart... you'll see him again one day :o)
After reading this I'd think you've done some over the road work too. Another beauty. That's why I chose you for my mentor. I'm using a slow truck stop computer in Knoxville right now. God I wish I was home.9
Blimey! Have you been reading Dylan Thomas? This is excellent. It sums up very well the autumnal weather, and you get in the absurdity of existence, a la Samuel Beckett. Top banana!
I do like a good bit Yank bashing, but it's not much fun when it's this obvious. It's more entertaining to confuse rather than just annoy them.
Is this finished now? I preferred it without the final stanza, as you know, but hey, what do I know. Stick with what makes you feel best about your poem. I still like it.
Interesting title...is this a reflection of your young self? A good snapshot.
Nicely done!
Amusing.
Blah blah blah blah -- what is more cliched that storms, harbours, beacons? Have you no imagination?
This post-modernism run wild - what is real? Is everything a reflection of everything else? And does any of it justify buying expensive trainers? I'm confused by the second line.
