What does nuclear plant have to do with anything besides the fact that it rhymes with can't?
pain killer replying on Niggers Don't Write Poetry by pain killer 26 Jun 2004, 2:14 PM
hmmm...lots of wibbles and a fair old bit of honking going on here in writing about niggers i'm referring to people like tarantino whose liberal sprinkling of the word "nigger" in his movies caused samual jackson who is black and starred in pulp fiction to question tarantino's motives...it appears tarantino was aiming for that all important essence of the street..tarantino is known to be a real "fan boy" i'm also calling the shots on horus8 whi is basically an unreconstructed twat and by the way...pain killer is kind of dark skinned himself coming from mixed race parentage and so has a divine right to write things like "niggers don't write poetry" pain killr is not gay but he will let gordon zodiac@wibble.com rim him if he asks nicely

This poem is irreproachable in regards to it's softness and somewhat unhindered intellection of innocence. I like the feeling behind your words, finespun, yet basic and graceful. Polish it up just a half a hair and it would be a 10 and a half. Either or well done.

Have a good trip. You should consider packing some blank paper along with your dictionary.
Dovina replying on afraid by hbhpoems 26 Jun 2004, 1:21 PM
Funny, most critics say, "Show, don't tell." I like it your way better sometimes.

An old poet I once knew saw a connection between a well dressed woman and a writer. Nonsense!

While I'm sure this is a poem about yourself and all the abuse you have suffered, you're not doing a very good job of expressing it. For one, it's a very tired theme, and there's nothing new in your treatment. For two, it's pure showing-not-telling, and while there are exceptions to that rule as any other, this is not one of them. For three, there's very little flow to the piece.
oh dear the big boys have come out to play abd they are unhappy because someone has pinched their ball...oh and i take it you mean you're a cock and not your a cock...just what do they teach you at those weekly meetings you attend at the frustrated unpublished writers meetings down at the poemrankers arms(real ale only) (nice one p!)...and you and god's hussy might as well be the same person because you are both self absorbed, humourless hags and in the words of the great James Joyce and Johnny Rotten ...you are both bollix! oh and tyhe way you dismiss "Pop culture" with sneering contempt gives you away as the prissy, psuedo intellectual snob you so obviously are...and you're not even clever (or big!) You tit...

Just the last week, eh? What would you say those were?

Of course not. But I do find the thought of forcibly removing myself from poemranker (in 10 days!) tremendously arousing. Just check out this 'off-the-cuff' rhyme: I'm going to a town Where everything's brown And they cut off your hands if you're gay, But the thought that I might Get away from this site Has caused me to uncontrollably spray All over my 'greenscreen' display. PS-You might try writing 'wholly' instead of 'wholely', as the first has the advantage of being correct, while yours does not.

Tuffy (Villanelle) by horus8 "Pardon me sir, do you have a tuffy?" I asked the man in the grey trencoat, He said, "Why, yes! Wanna see it, lovey?"

Do you also have a degree in "clothes-wearing" from an accredited "clothes-wearing" educational institution? Perhaps you instead have many years of "clothes-wearing" (under your belt) or have observed many "clothes-wearing" people who have shown through critical acclaim or other virtue that they are prime examples of fine "clothes-wearing"; this enabling you to judge Melissa's art or science. Either way, a cleverly fashioned, if not wholely sensible comment - how are you doing with that whole "writing poetry" thing? Done much of that lately?

The sentence construction [As I do something in the present tense, something happens in present tense] should be bound and gagged in a basement somewhere and beaten into a coma by a band of masked salami-wielding EastEnder hoodlums.
zodiac replying on Sustained by Dovina 26 Jun 2004, 11:33 AM
You are, however, right that this poem is the highest order of nonsense.
zodiac replying on Sustained by Dovina 26 Jun 2004, 11:31 AM
This one ex-girlfriend of mine - who, as far as I know, has still never left the state of North Carolina - had no proper conception of tasteful clothes-wearing. She had instead one or two absurd notions which she called 'fashion' (such as not combining a shirt and pants which weren't exactly the same color) which she clung to with a kind of zealot's blockheaded fervor. I think it's fair to say that you are the Melissa of poetry.

I feel afraid when I think of how in the last week poemranker has lost the last of its non-retarded qualities, becoming merely a retard-powered beard of a crumb-repository for all of the most disastrously illiterate and overwrought nonsense ever spoken - including, I'm afraid, my own. ******* NB-This message is in code. To discover its true meaning, replace every instance of the word 'afraid' with 'bored and more than a little ashamed'. Thanks.

There once was a gay porcupine With no lovers (because of his spines) Till he got with Dean Cain, Who said 'Sure, there's pain, But compared with buggery, it's fine.'

I get the impression that this could be a far better piece without the constraints of the rhyme pattern. As it is, it feels a little disjointed and forced in parts, if only to fit the structure you've imposed on it.
